How to download a Loom video
Turn a share link into an MP4 you keep, screen and camera together — no Loom account, workspace access or extension needed.
Which Loom links work
Both of Loom's public link types work:
- loom.com/share/… — the standard share link
- loom.com/embed/… — the link behind a Loom embedded in a document or web page
The video has to play for someone who isn't signed in to your workspace. Recordings restricted to a workspace, or protected with a password, can't be downloaded here.
When Loom doesn't show a Download button
Loom's own download is controlled by the video's owner and by plan. Loom's help centre describes it as a paid-plan feature: owners download from the video page, and viewers only see the button when they're signed in and the owner has switched downloads on.
If an owner has deliberately turned downloads off, treat that as their answer and ask them for the file. Downloading here is for recordings you made, recordings sent to you to keep, and ones you have permission to archive.

What's in the file
You get an MP4 of the recording as it plays on its share page — screen and camera together, with the audio — at the resolution it was recorded. Screen recordings often use a lower frame rate by design; that's normal, not a download problem.

Do I need access to the workspace?
No. If the share link plays for you in a logged-out browser, it can be downloaded here — nothing is required beyond the link.
Why save a Loom as a file?
A share link only works while the video exists. Recordings get deleted to stay under plan limits, removed when someone leaves a workspace, or lost when a team moves off Loom. A local MP4 keeps working.
Why can't I see a Download button on Loom?
Loom's own download is a paid-plan feature, and viewers only get it when they're signed in and the owner has enabled downloads. Free-plan owners and most viewers won't see it.
Does it work for private or password-protected Looms?
No. If the share link doesn't play for you in a logged-out browser, there's nothing we can read.
What resolution do I get?
Whatever was recorded. Screen recordings often carry a lower frame rate by design, which is normal.
