How to download a Facebook video
Feed videos, Watch links and Reels from public posts. SD and HD are listed with their sizes so you can pick on a metered connection.
Finding the right link
Facebook shows the same video in several places, each with its own address. These all work:
- facebook.com/watch/?v=… — a video opened in Watch
- fb.watch/… — the short link the Share button often copies
- facebook.com/[page]/videos/… — a video on a page
- facebook.com/[page]/reel/… — a Reel on a page
The Share menu's Copy link is the most reliable source. An address copied while scrolling the feed can point at the feed rather than at the video.
HD or SD: how to choose
Facebook usually keeps two versions of a video, HD and SD, and both are listed with their file sizes. HD is the one to keep for a large screen or for editing. On a phone, or on mobile data, SD often looks the same and costs far less.
If only SD appears, Facebook never created an HD version — usually because the upload itself was low resolution.
Downloading Facebook Reels
Reels download the same way as any other Facebook video: copy the Reel's link from the Share menu and paste it. The file keeps its vertical 9:16 frame, nothing is cropped to landscape, and no watermark is added by us.
Private groups, live videos and other limits
Some Facebook videos can't be reached:
- Friends-only posts and anything in a private group — they need an account we never ask for.
- Live broadcasts that are still streaming — once saved to the page, they download like any other video.
- Videos removed by the person who posted them, or by Facebook.

Why is only SD showing for some videos?
Facebook only keeps an HD version when the original upload justified one. If it isn't in the list, it doesn't exist on their servers.
Do fb.watch links work?
Yes. fb.watch short links are followed to the video, as are facebook.com/watch/?v=… links and page video and Reel links.
Can I download from a private group?
No. Group and friends-only posts require an account to view, and we deliberately never handle logins.
Do live broadcast replays work?
Once a live video is saved to the page it behaves like any other post. While it's still streaming there's no complete file to fetch.
Where does the file go on my phone?
On iPhone, in Files under Downloads — open it and tap Save Video to move it into Photos. On Android, in the Downloads folder, where most gallery apps pick it up within seconds.
