How to export your Loom videos
Loom's own download depends on your plan. Here are the ways to get your recordings out — one video or a whole library — without losing track of what's what.

Teams build up years of Loom walkthroughs, demos and onboarding videos, then discover the only copy lives on Loom when they change plans or tools. Getting recordings out is straightforward once you know which method your plan allows.
What Loom's own download requires
At the time of writing, Loom's help centre describes downloading as a feature of its paid plans. Owners can download from each video's page. Viewers only see a Download button when they're signed in and the owner has turned downloads on for that video. On the free Starter plan, the option isn't available.
Loom changes its plans from time to time, so check its help centre for the current details.
On a paid plan: download from the video page
Open the video on loom.com and use its Download option to save an MP4. Do this for each recording you want to keep. It's the most direct route when it's available.
On the free plan, or without a Download button
A video's share link can be turned into an MP4 instead:
- Make sure the video can be viewed by anyone with the link.
- Copy its share link (loom.com/share/…).
- Paste it into the Loom downloader and download the MP4.
- If you'd rather the video wasn't link-viewable, switch its sharing back afterwards.
You get the recording as it plays on the share page — screen and camera together, with the audio.
Exporting a whole library
Work through your library in order, oldest first or folder by folder. Keeping a simple list alongside — a spreadsheet with each video's title, date, folder and share link — lets you tick off what's done and spot anything missed.
Keep titles, dates and context
A folder of files named with random IDs is nearly as lost as the originals. As you save each one:
- Rename it with the recording date first, then the title: 2025-03-14 Onboarding walkthrough.mp4. Dates first sort chronologically.
- Mirror your Loom folders in your file storage.
- Save the video's description or notes in a text file beside it if they matter.
Before you cancel or delete anything
Once a Loom is deleted, every link to it stops working. Before you delete:
- Open a sample of the exported files and check picture and sound.
- Count exported files against your list.
- Update documents and wikis that link to the Loom videos, so people find the files instead.
Recordings that aren't yours
If a colleague's or client's recording matters to you, ask them for the file or for permission to archive it — especially if they've turned downloads off. What you may legally keep covers the general principles.
