Why some videos can't be downloaded
Deleted, live, region-limited, age-gated or protected — six reasons a link is refused, which of them clear up on their own, and which never will.

Most links work. When one doesn't, the reason is usually a property of the video rather than a fault in the tool, and knowing which is which saves you retrying something that will never succeed. These are the causes that aren't a temporary hiccup.
The one test that settles most cases
Open the link in a private or incognito window, where you aren't signed in to anything. That's roughly what a downloader sees. If the video plays there, a download should work. If you get a sign-in prompt, an error or an empty page, the media isn't publicly readable and no tool can reach it without credentials — which is not something you should be handing to a website.
The video no longer exists
Deleted posts, removed accounts and expired stories leave working-looking links behind. The address is still valid; there's nothing at the end of it. Nothing recovers a deleted video, though a link that failed a moment after being posted is worth one retry — very new uploads are occasionally not yet readable.
It's private, or on a secret board
Private accounts, friends-only posts, password-protected videos and pins on secret boards are all readable only with an account that has been given access. Asking the person who posted it for the file is the realistic route. It's still live
A stream that's broadcasting has no finished file yet — it's being written as you watch. Once the broadcast ends and the platform saves it as a normal video, the same link generally works. On YouTube that can take a while for a long stream, because the replay is processed after the fact.
It's limited to certain regions
Rights deals mean some videos are published in a few countries only. A request is made from more than one region, so a video restricted to a handful of markets may still be reachable — but one that's blocked everywhere reachable won't download, and that's where it ends. Nothing here defeats a restriction the platform is enforcing.
It's age-restricted
Age gates are tied to a verified account rather than to a location, so this isn't something a different route around the internet solves. Age-restricted videos are frequently out of reach, and that's the intended behaviour of the gate.
It's protected content
Films, series and paid catalogues are delivered with digital rights management — the file is encrypted and the player holds the key. Working around that is a different activity from reading a public web page, it's unlawful in many countries, and it is not something this site does. A link to a protected title is refused outright rather than attempted.

The site isn't supported
Links are matched against a list of sites before any request leaves — an address from somewhere not on that list is turned away immediately rather than attempted and failed. The six platforms currently supported are listed on the home page; others are added only once every quality they advertise downloads reliably.
What isn't in this list

A note on permission
A video being technically reachable is a separate question from whether you may keep it. Only download content you have permission to use and that is permitted by the applicable platform's terms and applicable law — what you may keep goes through the usual situations.
